Stuck for ideas of games to play in the classroom, well let's start a thread for all the games that your kids love.

Kindergarten games:

Hide and Seek: Classic

Bomb Card: Review the words, when you show a specific card/word they all have to sit.

Musical Chairs: sing the current song you're teaching as you play

Sumo: pick a few kids, have them hold a card behind their backs. they have to move to see what card is behind their friends backs. if they see one, then that kid has to sit down.

Duck, Duck, Goose: replace with the current theme words, and have the rest of the kids in the cricle chant as one moves around the outside.

Grid Games:

Snakes and Ladders: devote each column to a specific task, like spell, answer a question, read a passage, read some phonics, exercise.

Red and the Black: ABCDE, 12345 grid. Q&A current questions. side 1 chooses A3, colour that square with a red circle. repeat with other side. they choose B3 and you colour that black. if side 1 chooses C3, then the black circle is trapped by two red circles and turns into a red circle leaving three red circles on the board. it's like othello,

Make a House: grid of dots. Q&A and the kids can draw one line between two dots. the idea is to complete squares. every square you make, you go again.

Reading games:

Long breath: take a massage breath, see how long you can read.

subsitute nouns: change nouns (or any other part of the sentence) for silly words (obviously poo-poo and toilet if your kids are like mine)

Writing games:

Play hangman, then when the word is complete kids have 15 secs to write that words as many times as possible. count up the totals and see which side wins.

Write 2,3,4,5,6 on the board. write the new vocab word on the board. kids choose how many times they want to write that word. after a while stop and choose a number like 4. whichever kids have written the word four times wins. collate totals.

Left hand / non-dominant hand: get two kids to write the new words on the board in their "wrong" hand and see which is neater.
